Help Needed For Kawelu

A team of 10 people are headed over to Kawelu to lend a hand in the fund raiser, and to work with the children, (especially those with ringworm,), and to work on empowering the community by helping them to understand the importance of becoming self-reliant.

One of our main goals for Kawelu is helping them to purchase a green house.  We have been able to raise about $1000.  The cheapest green house is $5000.  That is made out of wood.  We would like to purchase one with a metal frame because it will last longer.  That one costs about $7000.

Having a green house at the school is vital because they will be able to grow crops year round, and now that they have a bore hole, they can use drip irrigation so the plants have access to water.

This green house will not only supply food for the students, but it will also become a source of income for the school.  The students will learn about new techniques in agriculture first hand as they work in the green house.

None of this will be possible with out your help.  Please help us to help Kawelu by going to:

http://www.theglobaloutreach.org/donate/

When you get to the page you can make a one-time donation to Kawelu by putting:  "Kawelu Primary School"  in the memo box.  This will give 100% of your donation to Kawelu.

Global Outreach Alliance is a wonderful non-profit organization.  You can donate to any of their projects.  Take a look at their website so you can see all of the wonderful things that they are doing to help people around the world.  You can help by donating to one of their wonderful causes, or you can get involved yourself by going on one of their life changing expeditions to:  Kenya, Uganda, Israel or Cambodia.  Join us and become part of the solution.

Changes at Kawelu

A lot has happened at Kawelu since we started working on this project.  The Kawelu community has been able to accomplish quite a bit with our donations and money raised from the 1st Harambee ( Fund Raising) that we did over there in 2010.  Take a look at this before and after picture:

Before:

After:

All of the floors have been cemented and all of the walls insided have been plastered.  The walls are safe now and not ready to fall over.  Now that the floors have been cemented, the students are not breathing in so much dirt.

The big change that has taken place is the new borehole that has been sunk at Kawelu.  They now have water for agricultural projects:

This water bore hole will help change the face of Kawelu.  Rechel

Ring Worm at Kawelu

Ring worm is something that we have all probably had at some point in our lives.  It is easily treated, but sometimes choices like buying food or buying medicine compete for resources.  For us, we just go to the pharmacy and buy some anti-fungal cream and put it on for a week or so, and it is gone.  This is often not the case for people in the Kawelu community.  There are currently 45 students at Kawelu that have varying degrees of ringworm.  These are pictures of some students at Kawelu:

No child should have to suffer like this from ring worm.  This is one of the things that we are going to take care of when we go back to Kenya.  For $10 for each child, we can get rid of this.

Go to:      http://www.theglobaloutreach.org/donate/     and donate today.  You can make an ongoing donation for this or any other project on the website, or you can make a one time donation.  Either way, if you want to help Kawelu, please put "Kawelu Primary School"  in the memo box so they know which project to send the money to.

Kawelu Primary School Presents: Ukuku Land.MOD

This is a dramatization by the students at Kawelu. It is about a people that lived in a land called Ukuku Land. The land was very successful and productive. Eventually the people became prideful and they stopped taking care of the land. The moral to the story is to take care of the environment.

Kawelu Primary School, Makindu, Kenya, Morning Roll Call

This is the morning roll call at Kawelu.  This is where all of the children meet in the morning. They come on campus and clean the campus, and after they do that, they all meet in front of the Administration Block to do morning roll call before they start their classes.

I am at Kawelu Primary

I have spent the last couple two days visiting Kawelu Primary School outside of  Makindu, Kenya.  The students are absolutely wonderful.  They have been waiting for me, and they have prepared some dances for me.  I am one of the guests of honor at their fundraiser, which is called a Harambee.  When we first pulled up at the school, the children ran over to us and completely surrounded our car.  They were amazed to see me.  Their greeting was incredible.  Wherever I walked around their campus, there was an entorage of students following me, or peeping through windows trying to get a look at me. I have to say that this experience is quite humbling.  I am not used to people making a big deal over me.
